DIVINE IMPOSSIBILITIES

Scriptures are cited from the King James (Authorized) Version, unless stated otherwise.

Question: Is there anything that is impossible for God to do?

Answer: The Bible tells of some things that it would be impossible for God to do. For example, the Apostle Paul says that God could not swear by any who are greater than Himself (Hebrews 6: 13). Since God is the Supreme Being of the universe, and none therefore greater than He, the truth of the Apostle’s words is evident.

Again, we are informed that “He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2: 13). Because of His immutability or unchangeableness (James 1: 17), it would be impossible for God to deny Himself, or to do any wrong in any sense. The Divine character of Wisdom, Power, Justice and Love could never be altered or swayed in the slightest degree. This gives us confidence that all of the Divine purposes will be accomplished exactly as pre-arranged from before the foundation of the earth. “Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world” (Acts 15: 18).

But someone might ask: Why did Jesus say “with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19: 26)? Jesus was correct, God can do anything that is possible, but the obvious exceptions are those things which are not possible, such as the examples above.
